PLAYER PLOT: attack on memories

Thanks to some selfishly-motivated shenanigans, Eren is going to use the Founding Titan's power to brain blast Ellipsa. Or…some of Ellipsa, since this is an opt-in event.

Affected characters will find themselves in The Paths (see above meme), a place out of time covered in white sand. Somewhere in the distance is what looks like a tree of light. No matter how much you walk, you won't reach it, it's always just in the distance/stretching into the sky. Normally this is a shingeki only sort of thing but thanks to Ellipsa magic, anyone can be affected!

What does this mean for your character? You have a couple options!

Option one: Memory share! This is pretty self-explanatory. Anyone nearby gets sucked into another person's memory! Both characters will be outside observers watching. These memories are not changeable. Other than that, go ham, see a lot or a little, try in vain to interact, whatever you'd like!

Option two: Idealised fantasy! Always wanted to hang out in the best possible ending? Now you can! Characters will find themselves living one of their fantasies. These are meant to be happy not sad or grim. Feel free to mashup your fantasies with whoever else gets stuck there with you. Whether or not your character realises they are in a fantasy is up to you.

Of course you can do both of the options above.

Option three is that this whole thing just doesn't affect your character and they go on living as if this wasn't a thing.

It's also up to you whether your affected character realises that Eren is the one who caused this. It won't be a secret, and since he'll be at least superficially connected to anyone in the Paths, that could work both ways. Eren will close this connection as soon as he realises what's been done, effectively slamming everyone back out into the real world. That transition will be abrupt and could be temporarily disorienting when your character wakes up.

Affected characters will fall asleep suddenly. The event lasts for one IC day, but since time in the Paths is completely meaningless, your character can feel like they were there for as long as you want. Hours, weeks, forever.

I'm aiming to post the event log on 10 December but I'm on UTC-8 time so it might be the 11th for some of you by the time I get it up.

If characters have a 6th sense, will that show up in their memory? In Yuuto's case, he can see and hear spirits in his world and they would be a big part of how he remembers the world.

Asking a question to help with any potential memory sharing decisions: would forgotten memories be applicable here at all? Like, it's happened to them in their timepoint already but they don't recall it.

If not, would it be possible to like, have a memshare like show the 'gaps' in their memory at all (i.e: showing the beginning of the scene, the ending of the scene but like there's Missing Middle Sections)?

eren jaeger | attack on titan

Memories shared: A montage of childhood: Eren, Mikasa, and Armin playing around their hometown, training with the 104th (including arguing with Jean and Reiner having to get in the middle, Eren trying his damnedest to not suck at using the ODM gear so he doesn't get kicked out of the military, some impassioned speech about going outside the walls).

Eren contemplating the terrible end of the world and apologising to a kid he knows he will kill. (TW talk of mass murder. Also a kid is getting beat up in this scene.)

The gang sees the ocean and Eren is not normal about it because he's Eren.

I might toss another one up there, we'll see.

Idealised fantasy ideas: NONE, he just gets suffering ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

Anything else: since I'm running the event and Eren's focus is Reiner, I'm going to be a little slow/limit Eren's hands-on involvement with other people. I'm absolutely up for people seeing any/all of the memories I listed above and reacting to them back in the real world.

As always, I am down to hand wave introductions or assume your character has met Eren at some point in the past if that makes CR easier. I would love more cross-canon CR, I just have limited bandwidth for too many threads.

Hijikata has seen a lot of horrendous things in memories from Eren's world, so I have half a mind to give him a break and let him see the little trio being happy! Or we can swing the other way, and this event can be how he finds out that Eren is going to end the world back home (though I'm basing this on assumptions; I haven't watched the video yet because I'm close to getting there in my AoT watch this week)... decisions!!

In any case we can handwave the memory-watching and cut to the confrontation afterwards (which will of course only happen in the worse-case scenario, otherwise Hijikata will simply be glad that Eren at least had a happy childhood up to a point). Whichever you prefer!

Kantera + Evangeline

Memories shared: all of reiner's shared memories will focus on eren! the broad categories are:

• training days: reiner acting as a "big brother"/mentor figure helping eren improve. features reiner paying particular attention to eren, genuinely caring about him despite knowing it's a bad idea (for Mission Reasons)
  
• post-reveal: reiner realizing he's losing his mind and revealing himself as a titan/enemy, thereby earning the label of traitor. later, an argument wherein reiner tells eren to 'go ahead, keep crying,' and eren promises to make reiner suffer and die in the worst way possible
  
• early ellipsa: several tense situations that end in kissing (and more, but will not include nsfw). other situations include a titan fight to blow off steam, a sparring match with bonus manipulation, and them admitting that they don't want the other to die/they want the other to stay alive
  
• later ellipsa: navigating a new romantic relationship without actually labeling it as such. dates, tenderness, confessions, and their utter inability to carry on a normal conversation without getting Super Intense at each other

Anything else: since reiner is the focus of this brain blast, he will not see anyone else's memories, nor will he be actively involved with those seeing his. (he may be visible on the sidelines looking like he's getting his brain fried, but his responses to anyone viewing his memories will be minimal)

for that reason, please let me know which of the above broad categories and/or specific memories you're interested in your character seeing. i will write a narrative-ish thing based on that

Do! You! Want! Gabi to see any of Reiner's memories? As a reminder, in the last memshare event, she saw both Reiner and Eren's conversation in Liberio and the stuff with Reiner, Bertolt and Annie after Marcel was eaten.

While Hijikata knows that Eren and Reiner have something going on, he still doesn't understand how Eren could look past all that happened in Paradis Island... but with him slated to learn that his poor innocent babygirl is going to end the world, maybe he could also stand to catch a glimpse of ReinEren, if you're up for it!

I reckon only the latter options would really change his understanding, so perhaps the mutual confession of wanting the other one to survive? (That definitely won't be awkward later!)

Cho Hakkai | Saiyuki + Deer Country CRAU

Soooo... Hakkai's memories are a whole MESS of CWs. Namely: mass murder, suicidal ideation (past), sibling incest (past), eye trauma... And all of this will absolutely be warned for ahead of time. And will probably just be contained in one prompt.

1) Just Another Tuesday
Some lighter memory of the 4 idiots on a road trip, see the other guys Hakkai actually knows and hangs out with. Possibly something from his past game, Deer Country? Definitely less heavy and likely 0 CWs except for so much swearing.

2) And They Were Roommates
So EITHER the day Hakkai woke up after his terrible day below, or an entirely different terrible bad day in which he pretty much died. And the guy he is surely only Roommates with had to smack him back to life. Either way - a snapshot of Just Two Guys Being Dudes with zero undertones but probably blood.

3) Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day - ALL THE CWs WILL BE HERE
yeeaaah so Hakkai went through Some Shit. His sister got abducted, died, and he went on a roaring rampage of revenge. Literally killed more than a thousand people. Covered in blood, lots of angst. Lots of him wishing he hadn't survived... it's a mess and he hates being reminded of it. So naturally we will be doing so.

Idealised fantasy ideas:
Literally just... two guys living in a house. Two other guys occasionally visit. It's the most domestic scenes ever and probably make absolutely 0 sense to anyone who doesn't know who everyone is.

Character Name: Porco Galliard
Canon: Attack on Titan

Memories shared:
Galliard's whole thing is that he's from the opposing side of Attack on Titan, and he has a very different perspective on the story. As such, his memories will have a similar flavour (same universe, after all) but an overall different vibe to the other AoT characters.

All the typical CWs for Attack on Titan for the memories listed below.

Kids in the military: The kids in the Marley Warrior programme are trained "since infancy," so if you'd like to see literal six and seven year olds getting abused by a drill sergeant, this is your chance!

The only human in a group of titans: Galliard spent several years being a backup Warrior candidate, meaning he was going off into military conflict zones with two titan shifters, as a standard issue human. So now he's like twelve, thirteen years old and getting shot at, while knowing he has to survive in case one of the titans gets hurt.

Devastation: one of Galliard's closest relationships was with his older brother, Marcel, who went on the Paradis mission and didn't come back. This will be the memory of him being absolutely crushed by the news that his brother isn't coming back, and has actually been dead for several years at this point.

More war: standard boilerplate titans running around a battlefield, tearing shit up. Probably the lightest of the options, as it'll be a chance for the Jaw titan to really bust loose and show off his battle capabilities. He'd be the least embarrassed for other people to see this one.

Liberio battle: please speak to me privately if you want to see this one, as it is the ugliest of the available memories.

Through his friendship with Jean and then more AoTs, Hijikata speedran a development from "I hate titans (and especially those awful enemy titan shifters who attacked the walls)!!" to "I guess those people came from a place that's very hard to live in and had reasons to do what they did (but I don't understand the details)".

He antagonised Reiner on sight at first meeting, only to be asked by Jean, Levi, and Hange to cut it out so they can all coexist peacefully here, and he hasn't met anyone else from Marley, so it would be interesting if he got more of an understanding of the perspective of the Marleyan Eldians! It might be confusing for Gaillard (but fun for us, hopefully) to meet a random otherworlder who's this invested in the whole titan conflict, too.

If you're up for it, would you have a preference for which memory to share? I feel like all of them would give Hijikata a solid idea of what life in Marley means for the Eldian titan shifter kids, so I struggle to choose one...

Happy Memories:
- A simple day on the farm: Marco when he was younger playing with his two younger sisters, Rowana and Viola, while he teases his older sister, Lucia, for having to help their mother.
- Training daze: Marco looks upon the cadet corps training era pretty fondly, so feel free to get a montage of moments where he's proud of himself/proud of others for their accomplishments.
- Good life: A more recent memory! Marco visiting Jean (rustyhonesty) and Mikasa (callyourname)'s house and getting to play with their dogs while he talks to them.

Sad memories:
- Marco's death: (CW: Graphic death, teeth/cannibalism, death screams, blood/gore ) It's probably better to link this. Basically, Marco is betrayed by his friends Reiner (hometown), Bertholdt and Annie, who leave him for dead for a Titan. It's very traumatic, and he felt everything :)

Idealised fantasy ideas: Anything where he got to live and join the Military Police or the Survey Corps!

I feel a little guilty for breathing down the neck of every AoT character I see, but our cast here inspired me to watch it, and this series has me completely enthralled (I'm currently halfway through S4). Having Marco alive and well here makes me really happy!!

Since Hijikata has been friends with Jean for a long time, I'd really like him to meet Marco! I usually love to make his life harder, but he already saw some horrendous titans-killing-people incidents during the last memory share event (and seeing Marco's death would probably make a huge dent in his get-along progress with Reiner), so maybe he could see Marco's cadet days instead? That would allow him to see first-hand what a good friend he's been to Jean since they were kids!

❃ CRAU "heart game" (oops! titans! edition): Aoko was in the physical manifestation of a friend's soul/mind palace/heart game, where she encountered an AoT titan. This memory is KINDA GLITCHY, with multiple versions overlapping one another; in one (the true version) she and her friend escape, albeit not without injury, while in the other(s) they both die. Typical AoT CWs apply.

❃ CRAU "heart game" 2: Aoko, now called Korone, recovers a memory of being "bodyswapped" into ... an AI? girl? ghost? who lives in a phone, which triggers another memory - this second memory (Agent Washington & the Epsilon AI from Red vs Blue) doesn't technically belong to her, but it's kind of a big bad deal for her. This triggers a heart game, where people are yeeted into her soul to patch things up.

This memory has multiple possible "routes". Those who interact with it might end up seeing bits and pieces of the bodyswap, bits and pieces of the Epsilon debacle, and-or bits and pieces of the heart game. There are a LOT of potential CWs here, though there is potential for it to be fairly chill depending on how we want to play things.
