Operation Nightshade: OOC plotting!

Through his relentless quest to make himself feel useful, Katsura has successfully managed to discover a conspiracy by the Nightshade gang!

They have gotten their hands on some sort of a Seasonal Powers Temporary Nullification Weapon and plan to kidnap one (or a few) of the Guild Leaders and exchange them for The Doctor, who is still in police custody. They’ve been making their preparations under the cover of the Arts Festival, and plan to strike once it comes to a close on the 26th/27th and people are resting at home!


Katsura has informed the Leaders themselves earlier, and they’ve decided that pretending they don’t know about the upcoming attack would be a good way to draw Nightshade’s new weapon out so it can be neutralized, as it seems too dangerous to leave unchecked.

Before the end of the festival, he’ll be organizing a briefing of sorts for Otherworlders. As he doesn’t trust the network (or the police), ICly he’ll first be informing his trusted CR (who then will inform their CR, who then can inform their CR – meaning that as long as you play a somewhat trustworthy character, they can absolutely hear about this meeting through the grapevine! And if you think that’s unlikely, they could simply wander upon it – it’s hardly very secret and likely held in a random Arts Festival tent that hasn't been decomissioned yet or a cafe conference room nearby. Alternatively, they can simply join in once Nightshade starts wrecking havoc on the city, as anybody can notice that! TL;DR as long as you’re OOCly interested, you can take part, whether or not your character knows Katsura!)


There will be three main parts to the log:

• The briefing, which is basically the mingle prompt. Katsura will explain the situation, share an annoying amount of plans and backup plans, request a headcount of characters with special abilities from home and/or volunteers for bodyguard duty (there’s an OOC sign up for this below!) and then excuse himself to go do his performance for the festival; characters are free to discuss the news among each other, share it with others who weren’t there, or enjoy the tea and discount crackers.

(The sign-up is not binding, but depending on whether all of the Leaders have at least one Otherworlder with them, they might be better or worse off by the end!)

• The stopping of the attack, and making sure the leaders are safe. This is the big fight portion, which will include +- three different prompts for fighting against Nightshade and their Darkness corrupted creatures, protecting the Guild Leaders, and tracking down and destroying their weapon (this will ICly be considered to have been a group effort, but OOCly you don’t need to worry about others besides your thread partner(s)!)

The fighting will not be limited to the guilds; regular citizens will also be in danger of the roaming creatures, the power station workers might be apprehended by Nightshade while trying to see what happened to cause the partial blackouts, and so on. The teleport nodes between the guilds will also be working. So even if your character is going about their evening (or night), they can get pulled into this if you’d like! In fact, it is preferable that we have some characters not on Power Holder guard duty, as they will likely need to handle the bigger part of the city fights.

• The aftermath. This will include a thanks from the Leaders, securing the remains of the Nightshade weapon for study, and cleaning up. This section might be slightly affected by the OOC interest gauged before the log is posted!

It will also include a rescue effort for Katsura, who’s been outed as the leak during the chaos and sentenced to be thrown through the Darkness barrier by the remainder of the Nightshade gang. (If you’re interested in helping him out, there’s another OOC sign up below! His castmates will be there either way so he will ultimately be freed, but he may be in a better or worse shape by the end, depending if anyone else is helping them hold off the cultists while the Gintamas work their magic.)

TL;DR SUMMARY:

• ICly takes place on 27th April, starting at night! OOCly the log should also go up around the same time (I hope).

• Nightshade Gang will attempt to kidnap Guild Leaders with the help of a new weapon they have that temporarily nullifies Seasonal Powers

• Before the attack, Katsura will try to organize an extra security detail for the Guild Leaders comprised of Otherworlders (sign up here)! Characters do not NEED to have special abilities for this, though it would definitely be helpful.

• *This doesn’t “lock you in” for the whole duration of the plot, you don’t need to worry too much who is where when tagging around as the battle is dynamic and there are teleport nodes between the guilds. By mysterious convenience, no leader is ever left completely alone even if part of their security detail jumps over to help someone else!

• Annoyed by the resistance they’re running into, Nightshade will release Darkness touched/corrupted creatures into the city to cause more chaos and fighting on the streets. Characters not on Power Holder guard duty will likely need to take the larger part of these fights, so absolutely not everyone needs to sign up for those!

• Otherworlders will eventually discover and neutralize Nightshade’s weapon, solidifying their victory!

• The remaining Nightshade are mad about it and decide to take it out on their “traitor”. (That's Zura!) His friends will organize a rescue (sign up here).

• You can take part in the plot without signing up for either of those! It’s just there to help me gauge how well or how poorly certain parts might go for the final version of the log. ;)

• You don’t need previous CR with Katsura or Gintamas to take part!

Katsura is something of a plot conduit this time so he probably won't be around too much. I imagine he will be missing for at least the latter part of the fighting operation, and then of course be around once he's rescued -- so if anyone wants to interact with him before or after his damsel in distress era, let me know!

While the honor of physically snatching him out of the air (or breaking him out of a cage, however fast everyone gets there) will be reserved for his castmates, he'll then be available for other team-ups as well, as they mop up his kidnappers. He'll also be very touched to see more faces there! :>

Not necessarily a one on one plotting thing, but Aventurine has some poker chips with hidden trackers he can give to Katsura and transfer the app to Gintoki's phone to help aid the rescue process - as a 'they've seen your face so here's an item just in case you need it, give it back to me after'.

It will blink on and off on the app since they don't work 100% in ellipsa but it'll give a bit of hope as a back up. He'd call it a good luck token tbh.

Levi will most likely be glued to Olwen's side because that's his (semi-unwilling) commiseration buddy and he takes threats against those seriously. So he'll be doing most of his fighting in/around the Winter Guild, but I'm willing to yeet him in another direction for a bit if anybody wants him elsewhere!

I'd also like him to participate in the weapon deconstruction, whatever it may turn out to be. 👁

Coincidentally, I wanted an opportunity to let Evangeline be a badass!

She will not be guarding the Power Holders despite hearing about it in advance because... frankly, she knows herself and she will probably kill criminals who attack her. Play death games, get death prizes. She feels like that happening directly in front of an authority figure would probably have some consequences. (Barghest can ping her for help if she needs it, though.)

Instead, she will be roaming the city rescuing people from both darkness-touched creatures and Nightshade members! Obviously she'll rescue CR, but she'll also step in for strangers no questions asked, so if you want to jumpstart CR with her, this is a good chance!

Fighting alongside people who don't need rescuing is also something I'm super down for. In general, I want her to come out of this plot with renewed confidence in her ability to defend herself and the people around her.

This amused me because look at Evangeline being reasonable about not doing murder in front of Power Holders while Levi never even thought about it being an issue. 😭 (He might get in a lil bit of trouble...)

Idk if they'll have a chance to run into each other since he'll be mostly on guard duty but I would like him to witness (more of) Eva being badass yes good

Since this is Zura's thing and that's the love of his life his bff, Gintoki will be right in the thick of it. He'll be protecting whatever Guild Leader Zura assigns him to.

And then there's a chance to see him unusually angry and fired up about the Nightshade fuckers keeping Zura imprisoned. He has complete belief that Zura would've been fine on his own because escaping mortal danger is just what he does, but how dare the bastards. It's flying and dual wielding time.

Technically, Aventurine owes the guild leaders after the spectacular fuck up that was Liar's Mansion so he will sign himself up to help here. He's asking for Olwen because he's had one to one conversations with him after that event where he trusted him to deliver his own file and its awful contents to researchers to look into and see if they could use it to find a way to The Scientist. He was also very understanding of his own fuck up that blew the mansion up SDGKDSKG

Other than that, he has plenty of powers from his own world including offering a shield and dealing damage with the imaginary element which will probably be pretty shocking for these normies to be on the receiving end of since it's like a lot of coins crashing down on them and dealing lots of damage. Fun!

He'll mostly focus on that part and helping evacuate anyone who needs evacuating tbh.

After a lot of petty drama between the Gintamas, Hijikata wanted to avoid the other two for a while... but here we are! Needless to say, he can't say no when Katsura approaches everyone for help. This is a job for the SPOON (which totally hasn't just become a glorified neighbourhood watch ever since its split from the NCPD)!!

I don't have particular plans for him besides aiding in Katsura's rescue, but if anyone needs support against the monsters in the city, count on him!

Frieda will be protecting her guild leader Jade, but I'd like to also get her involved in the ongoings in the streets when she's not on bodyguard duty! While she'd have a big advantage in titan form, she's really reluctant to use those powers in the city, so it's up in the air how it'll go...

so katsuki's part of hijikata's spoon brigade which is being volunteered to help, and this is completely up his alley as a hero as well, so he's got to be part of this!! the only thing is that irl has become a bit of a hellscape for me lately so i can't promise i'll tag the post itself that much, but i still really wanted katsuki to at least be part of the numbers!!

he's a very strong ally to have so he'll be a lot of help when it comes to protecting guild leaders!! 💥

Shoto's number 1 skill is "support", so he'll be thoroughly guarding the streets (fighting the monsters, guiding escapes, aiding civilians wherever he can) if it means less work for everyone else... Thanks to a mixture of her vampirism, Arachne curse and an enchanted shotgun, Eva’ll be taking to the streets to fight some of the corrupted monsters!
